I am a qualified teacher and have been teaching for the last 19 years in schools in London. Although I have taught in a range of year groups, I have a vast amount of experience with Early years and Key Stage 1 where the teaching of reading occurs. 

During nearly two decades of teaching, I have taught countless children how to read. It is not a one size fits all approach. The teaching of reading incorporates lots of different elements including an understanding of how each individual child learns best. 

With an increasingly demanding curriculum, the time a teacher has to spend with each individual child teaching them to read in a classroom setting is dwindling year on year. 

Some children need a little extra time, attention and a range of strategies to enable them to be a reader. 

I use physical books in my tutoring and these are also sent home to read between sessions. 

These one to one reading sessions are fun and engaging. Children make rapid progress enabling them to close the gap between themselves and their peers.
